A.V.A. Ballet Theatre's Swan Lake

The spring gala season for the A.V.A. Ballet Theatre opens with the classic Swan Lake on May 1st and 2nd at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. The A.V.A. Ballet Theatre Orchestra led by conductor Michael Borowitz will perform the haunting score to this wonderful ballet. Re-staged and re-choreographed by Alexander Van Alstyne, Swan Lake is the story of Odette who was turned into a swan by the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart. She tells the handsome Prince Siegfried that the only way the spell can be broken is if a man, pure in heart, pledges his love to her. Von Rothbart tries to keep the two apart but in the end they ascend to the heavens above Swan Lake.

Professional dancers from throughout the west coast will star in the lead rolls with Kate Crews from Ballet West as Odette. The large cast includes many talented dancers from four different ballet studios in the Reno area.

The Saturday May 1st performance will be held at 8pm and the Sunday May 2nd performance will be at 2pm. Ticket prices for adults are from $25 to $40. Ticket prices for children 12 and under and seniors 65 and older are from $15 to $35. For tickets call the Pioneer Center at 775-686-6600 or on-line at pioneercenter.com.
