A.V.A. Ballet Theatre and the Reno Phil Present Alice in Wonderland




The spring gala season for A.V.A. Ballet Theatre opens with the classic ballet, Alice in Wonderland, on April 13th and 14th at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. Choreographed by Alexander Van Alstyne, Alice in Wonderland is the captivating story of the young girl and her adventures in Wonderland.

This enchanted story is filled with mesmerizing dance, intrigue, and is fun for the entire family. Laura Jackson will be conducting the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra.

Outstanding guest principal dancers who have danced with larger city ballet companies will perform with the large cast from A.V.A. Ballet Theatre.

The Saturday April 13th performance will be held at 8pm and the Sunday April 14th performance will be at 2pm. Ticket prices for adults are $27 to $54. A.V.A. Ballet Theatre and the Reno Phil's The Nutcracker

Reno, NV - The stage at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts will be alive with a sugar plum fairy and dancing mice as A.V.A. Ballet Theatre presents the annual Nutcracker Ballet on December 7, 8, 9, 2018.  A.V.A. Ballet Theatre’s artistic director Alexander Van Alstyne has choreographed an exciting rendition of the popular holiday ballet and the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s moving score. Laura Jackson will conduct the orchestra.

Principal dancers who have performed with professional ballet companies such as Ballet West, Houston Ballet and the Diablo Ballet will perform the leading roles along side a large cast of local talent.

Nutcracker performances will be held Friday December 7th at 8pm, December 8th at 2pm and 8pm and Sunday December 9th at 2pm at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Reno. Ticket prices are $27 to $60 with discounts for seniors and children.

A special Sugar Plum party will be held after the Saturday and Sunday afternoon performances where children can meet the Nutcracker characters.

Reno, NV - The fall gala season for the A.V.A. Ballet Theatre opens with the classic fairytale Cinderella on September 22nd and 23rd at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. The Reno Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the magnificent score to this wonderful ballet. Re-staged and re-choreographed by Alexander Van Alstyne, Cinderella is the captivating story of the hopes of a lowly maid, the love of a prince, and the magic of a simple wand set to Prokofiev’s enchanting score. This classic fairytale is filled with mesmerizing dance, romance, and comedy and is fun for the entire family.

Guest professional dancers who have danced with major city ballets will join the large cast from A.V.A. Ballet Theatre. The local cast includes many talented dancers from numerous different ballet studios in the Reno area.

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre's Vortex, the Ballet That Rocks!

Now Free to the Public!

Reno, NV - The Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater at Bartley Ranch will come alive with ballet grace and passionate rock, dance, and alternative music as A.V.A. Ballet Theatre presents the rock ballet Vortex July 13th and 14th as part of the Artown celebration. 

Artistic director Alexander Van Alstyne has choreographed an exciting contemporary ballet that will be like no other you have ever seen. Imagine ballerinas performing grande jetés to music by popular rock artists. The stage will feature scaffolding and exciting props and sets that will create a visual spectacle that cannot be missed.

Thanks to generous support from the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation, the E.L. Cord Foundation, the Nell J. Redfield Foundation and the Arthur and Mae Orvis Foundation, the rock ballet Vortex is free to the public. The gates open at 7:30pm for picnicking and the shows begin at 8:30pm. This is a PG-13 production.

Vortex during the month of July is part of the 23nd annual Artown festival, July 2018.  The month-long summer arts festival features more than 500 events produced by more than 100 cultural organizations and businesses in locations citywide. Artown receives major funding from the City of Reno, and is sponsored by Grand Sierra Resort, U.S. Bank, NV Energy, Reno Tahoe USA, RGJ Media, KOLO 8 News Now, Reno Media Group, and KNPB Public Television. Additional support is received from the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre and the Reno Phil's Beauty and the Beast

The spring gala season for A.V.A. Ballet Theatre opens with the classic ballet Beauty and the Beast May 5th and 6th at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. Choreographed by Alexander Van Alstyne, Beauty and the Beast is the captivating story of the handsome prince who is cursed by an evil witch and transformed into a hideous Beast. He will remain a Beast until someone falls in love with him. That someone is of course, Beauty.

This classic story is filled with mesmerizing dance, intrigue, and is fun for the entire family. The Reno Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s exciting score.
