A.V.A. Ballet Theatre's Secret Garden Auditions

Reno, NV - A.V.A. Ballet Theatre will hold open auditions for its upcoming production of the Secret Garden, a storybook favorite choreographed by artistic director Alexander Van Alstyne.

Auditions will be held Saturday January 22, 2011 at the Conservatory of Movement 73 West Plumb Lane Reno, Nevada. Auditions will be held at the following times:

1:00pm 8 – 9 year olds (Boys and girls)
1:30 pm 10-11 year olds (Boys and girls)
2:00pm 12+ year olds (Boys and girls)
2:45 pm Corps de Ballet (Girls en Pointe)
3:45 pm Male Dancers and Character Roles

Rehearsals will begin early February.

The Secret Garden Ballet will be performed at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts April 9th and 10th, 2011 with the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra.

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre Sugar Plum Fundraiser


A.V.A. Ballet Theatre will be holding a Nutcracker Sugar Plum Tea Sunday November 28, 2010 at the Country Garden Restaurant in Arlington Gardens. The tea party will be from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

Tickets are $30 and include finger sandwiches, frosted brownies, butter cookies, and tea and hot chocolate. Many of the characters from the upcoming Nutcracker ballet will be in attendance.

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre is the largest ballet company in Northern Nevada and the only one to have the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra perform at all of their classical ballet performances at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts.

This fundraiser will ensure that A.V.A. Ballet Theatre can continue to bring in high quality professional dancers, new costumes and exciting sets for their performances.

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre's Nutcracker


The stage at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts will be alive with a sugar plum fairy and dancing mice as A.V.A. Ballet Theatre presents its 15th annual Nutcracker Ballet on December 10, 11, 12, 2010. A.V.A. Ballet Theatre’s artistic director Alexander Van Alstyne has choreographed an exciting rendition of the popular holiday ballet and the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s moving score.

Principal dancers from professional ballet companies such as the San Francisco Ballet, Ballet West, and the Diablo Ballet will perform the leading roles along side a large cast of local talent.

Nutcracker performances will be held Friday December 10th at 8pm, December 11th at 2pm and 8pm and Sunday December 12th at 2pm at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Reno. Ticket prices for adults are from $26 to $51. Ticket prices for children 12 and under and seniors 65 and older are from $21 to $41.

A special Sugar Plum party will be held after the Sunday afternoon performance where children can meet the Nutcracker characters.

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre Fundraiser

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre will be holding a fundraiser at the Great Escape 1575 South Virginia Street October 2, 2010. The event will have a Roaring 20’s theme and will feature performances by the dancers of A.V.A. Ballet Theatre. Doors open at 6pm.

Tickets are $100 and include dinner and entertainment. Tickets for groups of 10 can be purchased for $800. A.V.A. Ballet Theatre is the largest ballet company in Northern Nevada and the only one to have the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra perform at all of their classical ballet performances at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts.

Auditions: Saturday, September 18, 2010Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, 100 S. Virginia St.(use Stage Door entrance on the corner of Center and State Streets)
$10.00 Audition fee per person
Requirements:
Girls and boys must at least be in the third grade or 8 years or older by September 1, 2010 in order to audition
Dancers of all levels of experience are encouraged to audition, however, three years of ballet training is recommended
There are roles for male and female gymnasts who are between 5'2" and 6'2" tall. Please audition at 5:30pm
Male and female ballroom dancers may audition at 5:30pm (no height requirement)
Please arrive at least 30min prior to audition time in order to register and be measured
If your height is on a cusp, feel free to attend both or either audition
Schedule:
1:00pm - 1:45pm Girls 3'11" - 4'3"
2:00pm - 3:00pm Girls 4'3" - 4'6"
3:00pm - 4:15pm Boys and girls 4'6" - 5'6"
4:30pm - 4:45pm Corps de ballet men and ladies (ladies must be en pointe) '3"minimum height requirement
5:30pm - 6:00pm Adult walk-on roles (for the Party Scene)

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre Rock Ballet Vortex


The Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater at Bartley Ranch will come alive with ballet grace and passionate rock, dance, Broadway and alternative music as A.V.A. Ballet Theatre presents the rock ballet Vortex July 23rd and 24th as part of the Artown celebration.

Artistic director Alexander Van Alstyne has choreographed an exciting contemporary ballet that will be like no other you have ever seen. Imagine ballerinas performing grande jetés to music by popular rock artists. The stage will feature scaffolding and exciting props and sets that will create a visual spectacle that can not be missed.

Featuring a cast of extremely talented performers from Reno and starring guest artists from Ballet West, the rock ballet Vortex will feature demanding and passionate movement inspired by the dynamic of the music.

The performances of Vortex are at 8:30pm July 23th and 24th at the beautiful Bartley Ranch Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater. Ticket prices are $15 and $20 for adults. Students with I.D. only $10. This is a PG 13 show. Special VIP tickets that include wine/beer and hors d’oevres are available for $40. The gates open at 7:30pm for picnicking and the VIP party. A.V.A. Ballet Theatre's Swan Lake


The spring gala season for the A.V.A. Ballet Theatre opens with the classic Swan Lake on May 1st and 2nd at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. The A.V.A. Ballet Theatre Orchestra led by conductor Michael Borowitz will perform the haunting score to this wonderful ballet. Re-staged and re-choreographed by Alexander Van Alstyne, Swan Lake is the story of Odette who was turned into a swan by the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart. She tells the handsome Prince Siegfried that the only way the spell can be broken is if a man, pure in heart, pledges his love to her. Von Rothbart tries to keep the two apart but in the end they ascend to the heavens above Swan Lake.

Professional dancers from throughout the west coast will star in the lead rolls with Kate Crews from Ballet West as Odette. The large cast includes many talented dancers from four different ballet studios in the Reno area.

The Saturday May 1st performance will be held at 8pm and the Sunday May 2nd performance will be at 2pm. Ticket prices for adults are from $25 to $40.
