Requirements:

  • Dancers of all levels of experience are encouraged to audition, however, three years of ballet training is recommended 
  • Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to audition time in order to register

Schedule:

  • 1:00pm - 1:45pm Girls and boys 7 to 8 years of age
  • 1:45pm - 2:30pm Girls and boys 9 to 11 years of age
  • 2:30pm - 3:15pm Girls and boys 12 to 13 years of age
  • 3:15pm - 4:00pm Corps de ballet men and ladies (ladies must be en pointe)

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre's The Nutcracker - With The Reno Philharmonic


The stage at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts will be alive with a sugar plum fairy and dancing mice as A.V.A. Ballet Theatre presents its 19th annual Nutcracker Ballet on December 12, 13, 14, 2014.  A.V.A. Ballet Theatre’s artistic director Alexander Van Alstyne has choreographed an exciting rendition of the popular holiday ballet and the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s moving score. Laura Jackson will conduct the orchestra.

Principal dancers who have performed with professional ballet companies such as Ballet West, Houston Ballet and the Diablo Ballet will perform the leading roles along side a large cast of local talent.

Nutcracker performances will be held Friday December 12th at 8pm, December 13th at 2pm and 8pm and Sunday December 14th at 2pm at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Reno. Ticket prices are $25 to $55 with discounts for seniors and children.

A special Sugar Plum party will be held after the Saturday and Sunday afternoon performances where children can meet the Nutcracker characters.

Requirements:

Girls and boys must at least be in the third grade or 8 years or older by September 1, 2014 in order to audition 
  • Dancers of all levels of experience are encouraged to audition, however, three years of ballet training is recommended 
  • Height requirements are listed below
  • Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to audition time in order to register and be measured
  • If your height is on a cusp, feel free to attend both or either audition
Schedule:

  • 12:00pm - 12:30pm  Girls 3'11" - 4'3"
  • 12:30pm – 1:00pm  Girls 4'3" - 4' 6"
  •   1:00pm – 1:45pm  Boys and Girls 4'6" - 5'

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre's Rock Ballet Vortex


The Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater at Bartley Ranch will come alive with ballet grace and passionate rock, dance, and alternative music as A.V.A. Ballet Theatre presents the rock ballet Vortex July 18th and 19th as part of the Artown celebration. 

 

Artistic director Alexander Van Alstyne has choreographed an exciting contemporary ballet that will be like no other you have ever seen. Imagine ballerinas performing grande jetés to music by popular rock artists. The stage will feature scaffolding and exciting props and sets that will create a visual spectacle that cannot be missed.

 

The performances of Vortex are at 8:30pm July 18th and 19th at the beautiful Bartley Ranch in the Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater. Ticket prices are $20 and $25 for adults. Students with I.D. only $15. This is a PG 13 show. Special VIP tickets that include wine/beer and hors d’oevres are available for $45. The gates open at 7:30pm for picnicking and the VIP party. Vortex during the month of July is part of the 19th annual Artown festival, July 2014.  The month-long summer arts festival features more than 500 events produced by more than 100 cultural organizations and businesses in locations citywide. Artown receives major funding from the City of Reno, and is sponsored by Grand Sierra Resort, U.S. Bank, NV Energy, Reno Tahoe USA, RGJ Media, KOLO 8 News Now, Reno Media Group, and KNPB Public Television. Additional support is received from the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre Goes Under the Sea With

The Little Mermaid at the Pioneer Center

Featuring the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra


Reno, NV - The spring gala season for A.V.A. Ballet Theatre opens with the classic ballet The Little Mermaid on May 3rd and 4th at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. Choreographed by Alexander Van Alstyne, The Little Mermaid is the captivating story of the beautiful mermaid and her dreams of becoming a human. A dashing prince, a sea witch, crabs, and jovial eels have starring roles in this fantasy adventure. This classic story is filled with mesmerizing dance, intrigue, and is fun for the entire family. The Reno Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the exciting score.

Outstanding guest principal dancers who have danced with the San Francisco Ballet, Houston Ballet, and Salt Lake City’s Ballet West will perform with the large cast from A.V.A. Ballet Theatre.

The Saturday May 3rd performance will be held at 8pm and the Sunday May 4th performance will be at 2pm. Ticket prices for adults are $25 to $45.
