Requirements:

• Dancers of all levels of experience are encouraged to audition, however, three years of ballet training is recommended  

• Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to audition time in order to register 

Schedule:

• 2:00pm to 2:45pm – 10 - 13 year old dancers

• 3:00- 3:45pm - Corps de ballet men and ladies (ladies must be en pointe)

Reno, NV - The spring gala season for the A.V.A. Ballet Theatre opens with the classic fairytale Cinderella on April 13th and 14th at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. The Reno Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the magnificent score to this wonderful ballet. Re-staged and re-choreographed by Alexander Van Alstyne, Cinderella is the captivating story of the hopes of a lowly maid, the love of a prince, and the magic of a simple wand set to Prokofiev’s enchanting score. This classic fairytale is filled with mesmerizing dance, romance, and comedy and is fun for the entire family. 

Guest professional dancers who have danced with major city ballets will join the large cast from A.V.A. Ballet Theatre. The local cast includes many talented dancers from numerous different ballet studios in the Reno area. Laura Jackson will be conducting the orchestra.

The Saturday April 13th performance will be held at 8pm and the Sunday April 14th performance will be at 2pm. Ticket prices for adults are $30 to $60. A.V.A. Ballet Theatre and the Reno Phil's The Nutcracker

The stage at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts will be alive with a sugar plum fairy and dancing mice as A.V.A. Ballet Theatre presents the annual Nutcracker Ballet on December 15, 16, 17, 2023.  Artistic director Alexander Van Alstyne has choreographed an exciting rendition of the popular holiday ballet and the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s moving score. Laura Jackson will be conducting the orchestra. Due to popular demand, we will continue to have a fifth performance.

Principal dancers who have performed with professional ballet companies such as Ballet West, Kansas City Ballet and the Diablo Ballet will perform the leading roles along side a large cast of local talent. 

Nutcracker performances will be held Friday December 15th at 8pm, December 16th at 2pm and 8pm and Sunday December 17th at 1pm and 7pm at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Reno. Ticket prices are $30 to $65 with discounts for seniors and children. 

A special Sugar Plum party will be held after the Saturday and Sunday afternoon performances where children can meet the Nutcracker characters.

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre and the Reno Phil Present Coppelia

The fall gala season for A.V.A. Ballet Theatre opens with the classic ballet Coppélia on September 16^th and 17^th at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. Choreographed by Alexander Van Alstyne, Coppélia is the captivating story of the doll created by Doctor Coppelius. The fanatical doll maker has created Coppélia to be his companion and secretly dreams of discovering a way of bringing her to life.

Baker Swanilda and her lover Franz are also intrigued by the life-like Coppélia. Each of them dances in hopes of attracting the doll’s attention. Throughout the ballet, the doctor, Swanilda and Franz each seek the attention of the girl they all eventually believe is alive.

This classic story is filled with mesmerizing dance, intrigue, and is fun for the entire family. The Reno Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the exciting score with Jason Altieri as the conductor.

Outstanding guest principal dancers who have danced with Salt Lake City’s Ballet West  and the Milwaukee Ballet will perform with the large cast from A.V.A. Ballet Theatre.

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre's Vortex, the Ballet That Rocks

The Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater at the Bartley Ranch Regional Park will come alive with ballet grace and passionate rock, dance, and alternative music as A.V.A. Ballet Theatre presents Vortex, the Ballet That Rocks July 14th and 15th as part of the Artown celebration.  

Artistic director Alexander Van Alstyne has choreographed an exciting contemporary ballet that will be like no other you have ever seen. Imagine ballerinas performing grande jetés to music by popular rock artists. The stage will feature scaffolding and exciting props and sets that will create a visual spectacle that cannot be missed.

Thanks to generous support from the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation, the E.L. Cord Foundation, the Nell J. Redfield Foundation, and the Arthur and Mae Orvis Foundation, the rock ballet Vortex is free to the public. The gates open at 7:00pm for picnicking and the shows begin at 8:30pm.

Vortex during the month of July is part of the 28th annual Artown festival.  The month-long summer arts festival features more than 500 events produced by more than 100 cultural organizations and businesses in locations citywide.

Reno, NV - The spring gala season for A.V.A. Ballet Theatre opens with the enchanting new ballet Frozen on April 22nd and 23rd at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. Choreographed by Alexander Van Alstyne, Frozen, the ballet, is the captivating story of the Snow Queen written by Hans Christian Andersen. When their kingdom becomes trapped in a perpetual winter, Alana joins forces with mountaineer Kai to find Alana’s sister, Snow Queen Ella, and break the icy spell. This classic story is filled with mesmerizing dance, intrigue, and is fun for the entire family. The Reno Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the exciting score. Jason Altieri will be conducting the orchestra.
