Nutcracker at the Pioneer Center
Featuring the
Reno Philharmonic Orchestra
Reno, NV - The
stage at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts will be alive with a sugar
plum fairy and dancing mice as A.V.A. Ballet Theatre presents the annual
Nutcracker Ballet on December 11, 12, 13, 2015.
A.V.A. Ballet Theatre’s artistic director Alexander Van Alstyne has
choreographed an exciting rendition of the popular holiday ballet and the Reno
Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s moving score. Laura Jackson
will conduct the orchestra.
Principal dancers who
have performed with professional ballet companies such as Ballet West, Houston
Ballet and the Diablo Ballet will perform the leading roles along side a large
cast of local talent.
Nutcracker
performances will be held Friday December 11th at 8pm, December 12th at 2pm and
8pm and Sunday December 13th at 2pm at the Pioneer Center for the Performing
Arts in downtown Reno. Ticket prices are $25 to $55 with discounts for seniors
and children.
A special Sugar
Plum party will be held after the Saturday and Sunday afternoon performances
where children can meet the Nutcracker characters.

Requirements:
- Girls
and boys must at least be in the third grade or 8 years or older by
September 1, 2015 in order to audition
- Dancers
of all levels of experience are encouraged to audition, however, three
years of ballet training is recommended
- Height
requirements are listed below
- Please
arrive at least 30 minutes prior to audition time in order to
register and be measured
- If
your height is on a cusp, feel free to attend both or either audition

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre's Rock Ballet Vortex
The Robert Z.
Hawkins Amphitheater at Bartley Ranch will come alive with ballet grace and
passionate rock, dance, and alternative music as A.V.A. Ballet Theatre presents
the rock ballet Vortex July 17th and 18th
as part of the Artown celebration.
Artistic director
Alexander Van Alstyne has choreographed an exciting contemporary ballet that
will be like no other you have ever seen. Imagine ballerinas performing grande
jetés to music by popular rock artists. The stage will feature scaffolding and
exciting props and sets that will create a visual spectacle that cannot be
missed.
Thanks to generous
support, from the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation, the E.L. Cord Foundation, the
Nell J. Redfield Foundation and the Arthur and Mae Orvis Foundation, the rock
ballet Vortex is free to the public. The
gates open at 7:30pm for picnicking and the shows begin at 8:30pm. This is a
PG-13 production.

Vortex during
the month of July is part of the 20th annual
Artown festival, July 2015. The month-long summer arts festival features
more than 500 events produced by more than 100 cultural organizations and
businesses in locations citywide. Artown receives major funding from the City
of Reno, and is sponsored by Grand Sierra Resort, U.S. Bank, NV
Energy, Reno Tahoe USA, RGJ Media, KOLO 8 News Now, Reno Media Group, and KNPB
Public Television. Additional support is received from the Nevada Arts Council
and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Loretta Dodd Miller Instructor
Loretta Dodd Miller is a former soloist with The Boston Ballet & former member o...f Pennsylvania Ballet. Ms. Miller trained at the prestigious School of American Ballet in NYC on a full scholarship. She has worked with many greats including Violette Verdy, Rudolf Nureyev, Alberto Alonso, Lupe Serrano, and Fernando Bujones. She is a former faculty member of Steps and The Broadway Dance Center in NYC, Santa Fe College in Gainesville, FL., was a guest teacher at University of Florida, and was the Artistic Director of Florida Arts & Dance Company. She has choreographed more than thirty ballets. Ms. Miller is well versed in the Vaganova, Cecchetti, Cuban, and Balanchine techniques; a broad array, which uniquely prepares her students for every style of dance.

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre and the Reno Philharmonic's Sleeping Beauty
The 2015 spring gala season for
the A.V.A. Ballet Theatre opens with the classic Sleeping Beauty on May 2rd and
3th at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. The Reno Philharmonic Orchestra
will perform the haunting score to this wonderful ballet. Re-staged and
re-choreographed by Alexander Van Alstyne, Sleeping Beauty is the story of a
beautiful princess who is cursed by the evil Carrabosse. Professional dancers
from throughout the country will star in the lead rolls. The large cast
includes many talented dancers from four different ballet studios in the Reno
area.
The Saturday May 2rd performance
will be held at 8pm and the Sunday May 3th performance will be at 2pm. Ticket
prices for adults are from $25 to $45 with discounts for seniors and children.
