A.V.A. Ballet Theatre's Vortex, the Ballet That Rocks



The Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater at the Bartley Ranch Regional Park will come alive with ballet grace and passionate rock, dance, and alternative music as A.V.A. Ballet Theatre presents Vortex, the Ballet That Rocks July 14th and 15th as part of the Artown celebration.  

Artistic director Alexander Van Alstyne has choreographed an exciting contemporary ballet that will be like no other you have ever seen. Imagine ballerinas performing grande jetés to music by popular rock artists. The stage will feature scaffolding and exciting props and sets that will create a visual spectacle that cannot be missed.

Thanks to generous support from the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation, the E.L. Cord Foundation, the Nell J. Redfield Foundation, and the Arthur and Mae Orvis Foundation, the rock ballet Vortex is free to the public. The gates open at 7:00pm for picnicking and the shows begin at 8:30pm. 

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre is the resident ballet company for the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. They are northern Nevada's largest company under the instruction of a professional faculty with years of performing experience in renowned metropolitan ballet and production companies across the United States and Europe.

Vortex during the month of July is part of the 28th annual Artown festival.  The month-long summer arts festival features more than 500 events produced by more than 100 cultural organizations and businesses in locations citywide.

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre and the Reno Phil Present Frozen



Reno, NV - The spring gala season for A.V.A. Ballet Theatre opens with the enchanting new ballet Frozen on April 22nd and 23rd at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. Choreographed by Alexander Van Alstyne, Frozen, the ballet, is the captivating story of the Snow Queen written by Hans Christian Andersen. When their kingdom becomes trapped in a perpetual winter, Alana joins forces with mountaineer Kai to find Alana’s sister, Snow Queen Ella, and break the icy spell. This classic story is filled with mesmerizing dance, intrigue, and is fun for the entire family. The Reno Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the exciting score. Jason Altieri will be conducting the orchestra.

Outstanding guest principal dancers from throughout the country will perform with the large cast from A.V.A. Ballet Theatre.

The Saturday April 22nd performance will be held at 8pm and the Sunday April 23rd performance will be at 2pm. Ticket prices for adults are $30 to $60. Ticket prices for children 12 and under and seniors 65 and older are $25 to $55. For tickets call the Pioneer Center at 775-434-1050 or on-line at pioneercenter.com.
